Pleasure hike in the footsteps of King Ludwig

The Bavarian fairy-tale king Ludwig II left his descendants not only the magnificent castles of Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee, but also many a royal riding and hunting trail, which was created especially for the eccentric monarch in the Bavarian Alps.
On parts of these historic paths, as well as on the most beautiful sections of the "Maximiliansweg", which was only opened at the beginning of the 90s, this wonderful pleasure hike runs along breathtaking ridges through the Ammergau Alps.
The Teufelstättkopf (1,758 m) and Hennenkopf (1,769 m) peaks form the prelude, with magnificent views of the Graswang valley between Ettal and Linderhof Castle with its magnificent gardens.

After spending the night at the beautifully situated Brunnenkopfhäusern (1,602 m), the route becomes more alpine with the Große Klammspitze (1,924 m) and the Feigenkopf (1,866 m). The onward route to the privately run Kenzenhütte (1,294 m) from Bäckenalmsattel can be supplemented with a hike through the wild and romantic "Kessel" and Hasentalkopf (1,794 m). But the final day also has plenty of highlights in store and offers another highlight with the ascent of the Krähe (2,012 m), one of the few two-thousand-metre peaks in the Northern Ammergau Alps.
The crossing of the Tegelberg, which towers high above Schwangau, with a view of what is probably the most beautiful castle in the Ammergau Alps: Neuschwanstein Castle, will also remain in your memory. The descent over the west ridge, with its impressive rock formations, constantly opens up new perspectives of Neuschwanstein Castle, as well as the final crossing of the famous "Marienbrücke", where you can feel the fascinating history of the Bavarian fairytale king with every step. The Brunnenkopfhütte and the Kenzenhütte are the bases for this tour.

"Why wander far away when beauty is so close?
The Ammergau Alps between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Füssen are an absolute gem.
Crossing it belongs on every hiker's bucket list. Why? Here you can experience Bavarian culture, ridges and peaks in a unique way. The Vivalpin hike is anything but banal. Narrow, sometimes exposed paths and trails make the tour exciting and varied."
