    Alpspitze Ferrata

One of the most beautiful via ferratas of the Wetterstein mountains

The Alpspitze is the landmark of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Looking at the steep flank, it's hard to believe that it's relatively easy to climb via the picture-book side. But the via ferrata skilfully avoids all the steep steps and leads purposefully to the summit. Watch out: there are still some airy climbing passages to tackle on the descent via the east shoulder! In the morning, your mountain guide will meet you at the Alpspitzbahn valley station and check the necessary equipment with you. You will then complete the warm-up program with a short climbing passage on the half-hour hike to the ferrata. The technical, almost vertical key section (B) with many iron clamps is the entrance to the 600 m high steep flank. The route now climbs steadily up to the summit of the Alpspitze on well-secured paths. The ascent repeatedly offers breathtaking views of the green alpine pastures towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen and wonderful views of the Zugspitze or the Jubiläumsgrat. At the summit itself, you will be rewarded with beautiful distant views of the Wetterstein and Karwendel mountains and, if visibility is good, as far as Munich and the Alpine foothills. The provisional tour program may be adjusted for safety-related reasons, such as bad weather, dangerous conditions, unforeseen natural events or inadequate conditions of the participants. The final program will be decided by the guide on site.

  • Normal fitness and health conditionno
  • No climbing experience necessary
  • Sure-footedness and good physical condition for 3 h ascent and climbing or 5 h hike (plus breaks).

"At 600 meters in altitude, the Alpspitz Ferrata is not a short via ferrata. It is more strenuous than it appears at first glance.
There I like to take my guests on the rope at the one or other passage or I support them with breaks at the appropriate places.
As is so often the case, the tour does not end at the summit. Full concentration is required again on the east ridge and further down on the north face climb. But as I said, I help my guests with the right tips, even with rope support if necessary."
