Zugspitze Trail Run - Single Push
Trail running adventure through the Reintal valley
The Zugspitze Single Push follows the historic route of the first climbers through the Reintal - in the Fast-&-Light-Style to the highest peak in Germany in one day. This guided trail running tour is aimed at ambitious runners with alpine experience who want to reach the Zugspitze efficiently, technically clean and under their own steam.
The early start takes us along the Partnach river into the Reintal valley. At first we walk on wide forest paths before we reach a varied Single trails through the forest. Passing imposing rock faces, we reach the Reintalangerhütte, where we replenish our drinking supplies. Afterwards, the terrain becomes increasingly alpine until we reach the Knorr hut ascend.
After a longer break for refreshments, the trail continues along gravel paths and through the former glacier terrain towards Sonnalpin. The final section to the summit is steep, partly exposed and high alpine. Optionally, you can shorten the last meters in altitude from Sonnalpin with the glacier lift.
After around 22 km and over 2,000 vertical meters we reach the Zugspitze summit (2,962 m).
Tour itinerary
Meeting point is at 7:00 am at the Partenkirchen ski stadium. After a joint warm-up, we set off in the direction of Reintal. The climb is steep at first, but not technically demanding. After about 7 km, we switch to technical single trails between rock faces.
After approx. 15 km and 800 m of ascent, we reach the Reintalangerhütte. The following section to the Knorrhütte requires good running technique and stamina. There we have already covered around 1,500 meters in altitude.
The trail continues steadily uphill to the Sonnalpin lift station, before crossing a steep scree field and sections secured by wire ropes over a broad ridge to the summit.
The descent takes place together with the Zugspitze cable car into the valley and on with the Zugspitzbahn back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
At the end there will be a 30-minute stretching and mobility unit before we end the day with a cozy get-together at the Factory café to end the day.

All courses and guided tours are conscientiously organized and carried out in accordance with the safety standards of the Vivalpin Mountain and Ski School with qualified specialists (e.g. mountain and ski guides, mountain hiking guides, etc.). The provisional tour program may be adjusted for safety-related reasons, such as bad weather, dangerous conditions, unforeseen natural events or inadequate conditions of the participants. The final program will be decided by the guide on site.
Very good basic stamina for an ascent with over 2,000 meters in altitude. Safe, smooth running on flat single trails as well as Surefootedness in steep, partly exposed alpine terrain. Experience with long ascents, basic knowledge of using poles and good self-assessment are required.
For me, running the Zugspitze in a single push is the most intense way to experience this mountain - focused, reduced and completely with yourself. I look forward to sharing this special route with you and accompanying you to the summit efficiently and with plenty of flow.
