Ski tours in Gudauri, Georgia
7 days, 7 participants, level 2
The region around Gudauri and the mountaineering village of Stepantsminda is known above all for the Kazbekat 5,047 meters, the easternmost five-thousander in the High Caucasus. During the ski touring and freeriding week in Georgia, however, we are drawn to the powder snow slopes with the aim of reaching as many peaks as possible. many meters of descent in the Georgian deep snow.
Our base is the winter sports resort Gudauri at the cross pass. Gudauri is located 120 km from the capital Tbilisi on the 2,196 meters altitude and is home to the largest ski area in the country. 75 km of ski slopes, four gondola lifts, ten chairlifts and the highest point at 3.279 m are the facts. Even better is the off-piste terrain that can be accessed from the ski area. With ascents of fifteen to ninety minutes, long descents with up to 2,000 depth meters reach. The crowds are manageable, especially during the week, and cannot be compared with the Arlberg or other hotspots here. You can almost always find good snow and beautiful runs in the extensive terrain.
However, not only the ski area, but also the region around the Kreuzpass and towards Stepanzminda north of Gudauri offers a variety of Ski touring options in fantastic ski terrain far away from the hustle and bustle. The ski tour to Georgia is rounded off with a visit to the lively capital Tbilisi, which is well worth seeing.
