Avalanche Symposium Zugspitze: An event in cooperation with the Bavarian Zugspitze Railway and Alpine and Alpine+:
Prevention is everything. This applies in particular to risk management in winter sports.
At the Zugspitze Avalanche Symposium, you will meet representatives from science, professional associations in mountain and ski sports, the police and mountain rescue services. The internationally recognized experts will provide you with the latest knowledge on the assessment of subjective and objective dangers in theory and practice.

Among others, you will meet the following experts and speakers from the fields of:
Avalanche report: Dr. Thomas Feistl (Head of the Avalanche Warning Center)
Mountain rescue service: Trainers and experts from the field of rescue and assistance
Police mountain guide: Walter Schmid, state-certified police and civilian mountain guide, former police mountain guide instructor, member of the VdPBS and the avalanche commission, member of the instructor team at the Natursportakademie

Program Avalanche Symposium 2025 Zugspitze

8.00 a.m. Meeting point at the valley station of the Bavarian Zugspitz cable car
9.00 a.m. Welcome and program presentation by Christof Schellhammer, state-certified mountain and ski guide, head of the VIVALPIN mountain school in the seminar room of the Sonnalpin on the Zugspitzplatt,
followed by a presentation by Dr. Thomas Feistl, Head of the Avalanche Warning Center: Update avalanche situation report, creation, reliability, visions, AI
10.30- 16.00 hrs Practical training at three stations on the Zugspitzplatt:
Snow cover tests with Walter Schmid, state-certified police and civilian mountain guide, former police mountain guide instructor, member of the VdPBS and the avalanche commission, member of the instructor team of the Natursportakademie: current status of analytical snowpack analysis, demonstration and training of various quick tests for assessing avalanche danger
GKMR with Andi Stippler, state-certified ski instructor, state-certified army mountain guide, freerider: Current status of risk management for snow sports enthusiasts (ski touring, freeriding and snowshoeing)
Rescue and help  with Markus Becklass, state-certified army mountain guide, PPE representative at VIVALPIN, expert in avalanche transceiver training and rescue techniques
approx. 16.00 hrs End of event

Note on program changes: All courses and guided tours are conscientiously organized and carried out in accordance with the safety standards of the Vivalpin Mountain and Ski School with qualified specialists (e.g. mountain and ski guides, mountain hiking guides, etc.). The provisional tour program may be adjusted for safety-related reasons, such as bad weather, dangerous conditions, unforeseen natural events or inadequate conditions of the participants. The final program will be decided by the guide on site.
